Katie Porter and Sarah Lampson will lead early career research administrators in distinguishing between excelling in current roles and excelling in their careers. Katie and Sarah will also teach attendees strategies to measure, articulate, increase and promote achievements.

Katie Porter:
An executive MBA graduate from the Ivey School of Business, Katie Porter is Director of Research Administration at Hamilton Health Sciences, home to one of the most research intensive environments for medical research in Canada. Her team supports more than 500 researchers and their research teams and fosters the development of students and research fellows.

Katie is a regular lecturer at McMaster University, co-author of The A-Z Guide to Research Contract Review and Steer Your Career: A Research Administrator's Manual for Mapping Success and a frequent speaker at conferences, workshops and webinars. Considered a thought-leader in Research Administration, Katie is a role model for positive change and innovation in the field, with a track record of publishing and presenting in both national and international forums.

A CARA volunteer for over a decade, Katie also contributes her knowledge to several other professional associations and has received national and international recognition of her contributions to the profession.


Sarah Lampson:
Sarah was appointed Executive Director of the Canadian Association of Research Administrators in 2013 after more than a decade as a research administrator in various progressive roles at a leading university, a funding agency, one of the largest academic hospitals in Canada and at the largest health research organization in North America. Sarah co-authored the reference book The A-Z Guide to Research Contract Review and Steer Your Career: A Research Administrator's Manual for Mapping Success which are in use at more than 500 institutions globally. Sarah received national and international recognition for her contributions to research administration and is a faculty member in the Research Administration Certificate at Mohawk College.
