The More the Merrier Building Capacity for RDM through Collaboration.
Oct 2 2023, 12-1pm EST.

Sound practices in research data management are increasingly required by funding agencies and institutions across the globe. Of particular importance, the establishment of the Tri-Agency Research Data Management (RDM) Policy (2021) in Canada requires researchers to develop data management plans and to deposit research data that support publications. As such, researchers and institutions must commit to advocate for research data best practices and to develop and support data management services, tools and resources. Research administrators play a key role in effectively shifting this area of the research landscape. As a response, likeminded individuals at Queen’s applied for funds from the Digital Research Alliance’s Data Champions Pilot Project to develop capacity around RDM at the institution. The Queen’s Data Champions (qDC) strive to make RDM at Queen’s a national example of good RDM development and support. Essential to this endeavour is collaboration among key campus units, including the Centre for Advanced Computing, Information Technology Services, the Queen’s University Library, and the Vice-Principal Research Portfolio. Over the last year, the qDC engaged the research community through awareness, knowledge building and institutional activities around RDM in order to promote cooperation and build capacity. In this presentation, we will share the establishment, activities and perceived impact of the effort put forth by the qDC as a successful pathway to implement RDM best practices via research administration.
