Designing & Executing Successful Research Events - Part 1: Designing the Event

Designing & Executing Successful Research Events - Part 1: Designing the Event.
Oct 23 2023, 12-1:30pm EST.

Pre-event planning and paying attention to detail are key components of having a successful social activity. There are seemingly an infinite number of large and small details that need to be figured out prior to holding a social function. This presentation will cover the essentials that needs to be considered when planning your next activity so that no pertinent details are left undone.

This first webinar in the Designing & Executing Successful Research Events certificate series will discuss advice and tips on having an event checklist, planning your budget, deciding the date, booking your venue, preparing your program, finding a speaker, soliciting judges and session chairs, providing instructions to the presenters, communicating your event, and planning your food needs. Other things to consider depending on the type of activity include ordering trophies, booking poster boards, preparing the opening/closing remarks, finalizing the venue contract, determining your audiovisual needs, securing a photographer, preparing name tags, coordinating your volunteers, and acknowledging everyone that was involved in planning the event.

This special 90-minute presentation will also include examples of planning aids to help you visualize how to prepare for your next function. This session will wrap up with a 30-minute interactive question & answer period.

**A certificate will be awarded for completion of all 3 parts**
