Gendered language is language that reflects "the experience, prejudices, or orientations of one sex more than the other" (Merriam-Webster, 2017). This webinar will discuss the risks of using of gendered language in research proposals, and how we as research facilitators can mitigate these risks. Based on research that has been conducted in support of the development of Royal Roads' Equity, Diversity and Inclusion plan, as well as a combined 35 years of experience in professional writing, the presenters will discuss how Research Services officers can support women faculty members by watching for instances particular to gendered language in proposals, award nominations, and letters of recommendation.
