Sarah has served as a research administration at a leading comprehensive university, a granting agency, one of the largest academic hospitals in Canada and at the largest health research organization in North America. A networking catalyst, she founded several e-groups including of oncology research administrators across the USA and Canada and 2 national mentorship programs
Sarah has been recognized by the Society of Research Administrators International for her exceptional knowledge and performance of research administration as well as her continuous study and development of the field, with the Excellence Award - Advanced Level in 2013. For her contribution to the Canadian Association of Research Administrators, she was named "Unsung Hero" in 2012.
As a research administrator Sarah authored or presented over 50 articles, webinars or talks on research administration, including 3 books which are used by research administrators at more than 450 institutions globally. She currently teaches the in the fully online Research Administration Certificate at Mohawk College.
In 2013 Sarah was appointed Executive Director of the Canadian Association of Research Administrators (CARA).
Anita Chiu is a research coordinator at the Centre for Molecular Medicine and Therapeutics (CMMT) at the University of British Columbia. She previously worked at Merck Frosst (Kirkland, Quebec) and the Terry Fox Laboratory at the BC Cancer Agency. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacology (Hons) and a Masterâ€™s degree in Health Administration (MHA). She is a former CARA board member and has been co-chair of the CARA Membership Engagement Committee since 2014. She contributed to CARAâ€™s e-book titled â€œWhat I wish I knew when I started my career in research administration: Leaders share their reflectionsâ€. She also initiated the CARA volunteer Recognition Program that recognizes all volunteers by their role(s) and years served.
