What inspired you to become involved in the Professional Development Task Force?
I was invited to become involved and was excited to be included in a deeper discussion of my professional association’s development. I have benefited from some webinars as well as undertaking the CARA Research Administration certificate program via Mohawk College. I welcome the chance to reflect on my experience and help guide next steps for the association’s professional development offerings for members.
Please tell us about your background (professional/volunteer/education)
I have worked with Memorial University of Newfoundland in various areas of research administration for almost 12 years. I started in knowledge mobilization and moved to the central research administration office where I currently am Research Contracts Officer. I hold a BA from Memorial as well as several certificates. I am about to finish the requirements for the CARA Research Administration certificate program via Mohawk College. Excitedly, I will be starting an MA program in Political Science (public policy) in September and plan on doing that part time while continuing to work.
What do you find most rewarding about volunteering?
Volunteering lets me meet new people and develop new skills. It’s also rewarding to get to know other areas of your community or profession.
