This session will discuss building relationships with researchers and how to provide the information on their research accounts and training. It will also look at Year End Reporting, researchers paying themselves from non tri-agency accounts, and determining if the account is specific purpose or a research account and how to determine if it is a donation.

Melissa Joyce has been the Director of Research Accounting at the University of Victoria for 8 years and has worked in other roles at the University for over 16 years. She has her CPA designation and has been both a course facilitator and mentor for CPA students. Her main focus is providing excellent client service and creating efficiencies within her department at UVic. She is excited for attendees to share ideas to help make our jobs easier!

Regina Tiba is an Associate Director of Research Accounting at the University of Victoria where she is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of Research Accounting. Her role involves leading the development and implementation of best practice processes, programs, policies, and systems that ensure compliance with grant requirements across the University. Additionally, Regina is committed to delivering great client services to researchers, providing the support they need to navigate research grant processes seamlessly.

Aaron Brewer is holds the position of Manager, Research Accounting at the University of Victoria. Role: Ensure that the administration requirements for sponsored research grants are completed including financial reporting, invoicing, and funding agency audit reviews. This includes managing the administrative process, supervising staff, and coordinating with faculty and granting agencies as needed
