November 6, 2025, 12-1PM ET.
Many documents form the foundation of work in equity, diversity, and inclusion. The way we write our codes of conduct, terms of references, positionality statements, etc. sets the tone for our work as well as the stage for growth and change. In this session, Gwen will share the lessons she has learned about writing down the world of equity, diversity, and inclusion in research (and a bit beyond!). We will look at the subtle and not-so-subtle impacts of colonialism and systems of oppression that are at work in the documents we create and talk about ways to weed them out where we can and mitigate their damage where we cannot. We’ll look at the barriers that can be created by documentation, the barriers the documentation can help to overcome, and the ways in which they – and we – need to evolve.
